We’ve all done it – gone to bed with a full-face of makeup. Some of us even swear it’s the only way to get the perfect smudgy, smoky eye! But here’s the real deal: while you may gain you a few extra minutes of sleep, leaving your foundation, mascara, and eye makeup on is really just sabotaging your skin.

From dark circles to breakouts and dullness, here are 5 reasons why snoozing with your makeup on should be considered anything but beauty sleep.

1. Clogged Pores & Breakouts

Throughout the day our makeup acts like a magnet, holding onto nasty things like pollution or oil and residue from our hands and phones. Leaving that on your face overnight is like an open invitation for bacteria, clogged pores, and breakouts.

2. Irritation

While sleeping in eye makeup may sound very rock n’ roll, it’s far from glam. Not only can it irritate the delicate skin around the eye area leading to dark circles and puffiness, but if mini-particles make their way into your eyes it can cause redness and even infection.

3. Dry & Brittle Lashes

If you want lush lashes, leaving them coated in mascara and liner 24/7 is a major no-no. In addition to causing them to become dry and brittle, if eye makeup clogs one of the tiny follicles at the base of your lashes it can lead to pain and inflammation.

4. Premature Aging

Leaving your makeup on while you sleep slows the natural recovery process, working to repair itself from any stressors or damage experienced throughout the day. It also increases your skin’s exposure to free radicals and can eventually lead to visible signs of premature aging.

5. Pores Appear Larger

Last but not least, while sleeping in your makeup may not immediately cause enlarged pores, it can certainly look that way as dirt left in the pores makes them more noticeable and appear instantly larger.

Bottom line – take a few minutes to properly prep your skin before bed. If you’re still worried you won’t be able to commit, stash makeup-removing towelettes in your bedside table and literally wipe the day away in seconds.

We’re already three months into the new year! There are no more excuses not to get outside, get active and get healthy! Use this opportunity as a way to “Spring Clean” up your health. Here are some wellness ideas to get your body and health up and moving along.

Get Planting!

Start on your garden. Getting your hands dirty three times a week for an hour not only spruces up your yard and ups your happiness level, but it also burns approximately 250 to 350 calories an hour.

Don’t have a garden? Head out in the yard! Mow the lawn, haul mulch, pull weeds, or rearrange yard décor. This is all great exercise! Make sure to get up often and change things up, every 20 minutes or so, to make sure you aren’t overstraining certain muscle groups.

Burn That Energy and Get Great Rest!

Go to bed early. People who wake up earlier will have a leg up on the late night fans who sleep away the morning. Taking advantage of being out in the fresh air and sunlight during the day will pump you full of needed vitamin D, and combined with a great night of sleep, can fight away symptoms of depression and fatigue.

Take Advantage of the Abundance of Local Fresh Fruits and Veggies

Have you been passing by a farmer’s market with curiosity? Do yourself a favour and get your hands on some farm fresh goodies the easiest and most convenient way possible.

Don’t Forget To Take Your Vitamins!

If you have yet to introduce a daily supplement into your diet, it’s time. Keep it simple and take something that covers all of your bases.

When we’re healthy, everything works together: We feel strong, confident, and energetic. And healthful weight management is often a part of getting there. So we do our best to eat well and stay active.

But if exercise and a nutritious diet don’t achieve optimal results, our bodies may need some added support.

Get Help with Supplements!

Dietary supplements can be a valuable addition to an exercise program and healthy diet — with key ingredients including green tea extract, that are designed to support the metabolism.

Fun Fact

Green tea, or green tea extract, is commonly used in weight loss dietary supplements because many studies have demonstrated an effect on weight loss when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise program.

Easy and Convenient

It’s easier than ever to use as a daily dietary supplement. Just one tablet, twice a day, is enough to help improve weight loss and maintain a healthy waistline.

Support for Our Achieving Goals

With a healthy approach to weight management, we can reach our goals to look and feel even better!

What’s In The Air?

Your home is a busy place. People are always working, playing, cooking, washing, cleaning, and moving things around. These daily activities can release small particles and chemicals that build up in the air you breathe. Whether your home is large or small, old or new, the air inside may be causing breathing problems, especially for people with allergies and asthma.

Controlling the Air You Breathe

Sometimes the air outdoors can trigger allergies and asthma. You may have to avoid outdoor air pollution, pollen and spores. Any time air pollution and pollen levels are high, it’s a good idea to avoid being outdoors.

The indoor air at home is easier for you to control. There are air cleaning machines that you can buy or rent to remove some of the “triggers” in your home. But not all can effectively remove triggers. Some air cleaners use an electrical charge that makes ozone, which manufacturers claim will “purify” the air. However, ozone irritates the lungs and is especially a problem for people with asthma. We don’t recommend the use of air cleaners that produce ozone. Instead, look for mechanical air cleaners such as the IQAir HealthPro Series. It’ does not produce ozone, can effectively trap fine and ultrafine particles, and is rated #1 for allergies and asthma.

TACH Wellness Solutions carries air purifying solutions for both residential and commercial uses for short or long term rentals. For more info on this product email

Life has moved indoors. Admit it – you spend way more time inside than outside. Which means, like most people around the world, you’re probably not getting enough sunlight to provide your body with the vitamin D it needs to thrive.

Why Is Vitamin D So Important?

Vitamin D can help enable normal mineralization of your bones, supports normal function of the cardiovascular system and contributes to the normal function of the immune system.*

Sources of Vitamin D

Sunshine generates vitamin D in your skin. The National Institutes of Health recommends 5 to 30 minutes of sun between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at least twice a week on the face, arms, legs, or back without sunscreen. But that’s just a rough estimate, since it doesn’t take into account cloud cover, or shade, pollution, and sunscreen use, all of which block the UVB rays from the sun that start the process of vitamin D synthesis in the skin.

Milk contains about 100 IU vitamin D per 8-ounce glass — clearly not enough to realistically achieve the optimal supplement level of 2,000 IU/day. Of commonly consumed foods, the highest in vitamin D is oily fish like salmon, which provides about 100 IU vitamin D per ounce.

Note: For people with dark pigmented skin, greater amounts of melanin in the epidermal layer reduce the skin’s ability to produce vitamin D from sunlight.

The Good News

There are daily supplements available that are packed with enough vitamin D to guard against dietary insufficiency and support bone health, cardiovascular health and your immune system.*

Taking supplemental vitamin D is an easy way to ensure that you’re getting the optimal amount, 2,000 IU/day, without increasing your risk of skin cancer or skin aging from excessive sun exposure.

You may know taking a daily multivitamin-multimineral supplement is important for optimal health and wellbeing, ensuring we get needed nutrients that may be missing from our diets.

But did you know not all supplement ingredients are equal? The nutrients in some supplements are more bioavailable – that is, our bodies can better absorb them – than some others.

The conditions in which plants are grown can affect their phytonutrient content and the nutrients’ bioavailability. Phytonutrients are plant nutrients that offer a variety of health benefits.

It’s not about growing plants under ideal conditions, but growing them under the right conditions for the greatest benefits.

Research into plants and nutrition shows that when plants are grown under more stressful conditions, they release more phytonutrients.

There are some multivitamin supplements that contain a unique blend of phytonutrient-rich botanical extracts, for example rosemary from the Atlas Mountains in northwestern Africa, where the strong sunlight makes growing conditions more stressful – and gives the rosemary more potent levels of phytonutrients.

Sourcing plants with greater phytonutrient content greatly affects the nutritional value of the plant itself – and the nutritional value of the end product.
